Microwave

poetry by Hank Wagner

Long since the sun has shone,
Long since warmth has waned;
Unforgiving gelid lands
Creep further inwards
Beneath a surface of flesh,
Frosting over mortality

Icy breaths drawn slower
Inviting inwards the bitter chill
Mind and heart in heightened numbness.

So shove me in a microwave
Let me sit alone
Bathed in light and fervor
Slowly spinning, sated

Thawed blood runs smooth

Leave me there until my eyeballs rupture
And mind melts out my ears.

Boiled blood runs smoother
