Flowers

poetry by Sage Hardiman

I went to buy some flowers
So I could give them to my friends after hours.
Carnations for two dollars,
Gifts for my kind, fellow scholars.

I don’t need this favor returned,
So don’t be concerned.
This is the least I can do
That is, giving this little gift to you.
Just be my friend,
And we’ll all be happy in the end.
